Activities

During our 70 years the Myakka Chapter of the NSDAR has held true to our founders’ vision through providing programs and funding to organizations and individuals who foster environmental conservation, historical preservation, education and national defense. Our members work hard presenting programs and organizing fundraising events to assure that our mission is realized.

We support  NSDAR and  FSSDAR projects, purchase “Wreaths For America” and in December we place them on the graves of our veterans buried in the Sarasota National Cemetery.  We also provide Red, White and Blue ribbons that are pinned on the lapels of veterans attending the Venice Veterans Day Services.

We also provide scholarships and awards to outstanding local students through our JROTC Award program and the Historical Essay program for younger students.  Our Nursing Scholarship is presented to a high school senior matriculating in a Nursing Program and a Women in the Trade Scholarship to a student enrolled in a Trade School program.  We present a Community Service Award and Good Citizenship awards each year.

We support our local public library by volunteering in the genealogical section of the Venice Library, decorating library cases and donating books in memory of deceased members.

At general membership meetings, we collect items for local charities, DAR Schools, Active Military and Veterans organizations.
